Welcome to Selous Camp
Bordering Nyerere National Park (formerly known as Selous Game Reserve), Selous Camp is a brand-new camp offering luxury tented accommodation and acts as a base for fly camping safaris into the Reserve.
About Nyerere National Park
At a massive 44,800 square kilometres … bigger than Switzerland … Nyerere National Park is one of the largest and most important game reserves in Africa.
It was named after Englishman Sir Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died at Beho Beho in this territory in 1917 while fighting against the Germans during World War I.
Selous is the only site in southern Tanzania to have been awarded World Heritage status, which means it has “natural significance which is so exceptional as to transcend national boundaries and be of common importance for present and future generations of humanity.”
Being located on the humid coastal plateau and with the Great Rufiji river winding its way through the heart of the landscape, Selous has an unusually tropical and languid atmosphere.
The numbers here are astounding. The reserve is thought to contain up to 70,000 elephant … around 8% of the total world population … 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippo, 4,000 lion … the list goes on. One of the few places in the world you are almost guaranteed to see the endangered and elusive Wild Dog.
The Rufiji River is an added attraction and boat safaris both outside and inside the park can be conducted.

Daigle Tours have been organising and guiding safaris in Tanzania since 2013. We created our own permanent camp on the border of Selous Game Reserve to allow our guests to enjoy what we consider to be the best safari experience in Tanzania. Our camp allows us to accommodate those wishing to camp independently alongside those wanting a more comfortable accommodation option.
Luxury Tented Accommodation
Luxury tented accommodation allows our guests to enjoy the quintessential African safari experience in total comfort and style. Each spacious canvas tent is privately situated amongst ebony trees and outfitted with classic furniture, ensuite bathroom and veranda overlooking the waterhole.

In a totally separate area of the camp, we provide a small camping area for guests who want to enjoy the Selous experience on a budget. This camping area is a base for our budget fly camping safaris which allow adventurous guests to camp in a temporary site within the borders of Selous Game Reserve using the camp as a base.

One of the reasons we love Nyerere National Park is because it offers many different ways to explore and view the wildlife which are not available elsewhere. As well as traditional game drives in our specially designed vehicles, guests can also experience a river safari by private boat down the Rufiji River, take a walking safari, go on a cultural safari to nearby villages or go fly camping in the African bush.
